Internal Medicine Department

Internal Medicine covers a wide range of conditions affecting the internal organs of the body – the heart, the lungs, the liver and gastro-intestinal tract, the kidneys and urinary tract, the brain, spinal column, nerves, muscles and joints. We are trained to recognize and manage a broad range of diseases and many patients with chronic and multiple disorders, including diabetes and high blood pressure.

In our setting we see cases from a wide range of subspecialties including infectious diseases, nephrology, cardiology, neurology, pulmonology, dermatology, endocrinology, and medical gastroenterology.

We conduct our clinics from 8 am to 4 pm from Monday to Friday and from 8 am to 1 pm on Saturdays.

Endocrinology Services

Ampola Tasakhtaa Hospital provides a wide range of services to diagnose and treat conditions like diabetes (common in Zanzibar), thyroid diseases, infertility, growth issues, metabolic disorders, osteoporosis, some cancers, and disorders in the hormone-producing adrenal glands and pituitary glands.

Infectious Disease Diagnosis & Care

Infectious disease diagnosis and care. We are capable of diagnosing and managing the common infectious diseases. We have isolation wards for the highly infectious conditions.

Nephrology Services

We provide a wide range of services with regard to kidney care from preservation of kidney health to treatment of kidney disease including renal replacement therapy. We have high quality dialysis services.

Pulmonology Services

We are able to diagnose and manage common lung conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive lung disease. We provide important diagnostics including spirometry.

Cardiology Services

Cardiology services, that is, treating and prevent diseases that mainly affect the heart and blood vessels. We are able to do resting ECG, stress ECG, Holter ECG, and ambulatory BP monitoring, echocardiography, and serum cardiac enzymes among other tests. We are able to diagnose the life threatening heart conditions such as heart attack (myocardial infarction) and provide initial management before handling over the cases to a wide range of health facilities with specialized cardiac care including Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute. We also follow up patient with stable cardiac conditions referred to us for continuation of care.

Medical Gastroenterology Services

We also diagnose and treat common medical digestive disorders. We have state-of-art diagnostics including endoscopy. We have a visiting medical gastroenterologist at least once weekly.

Other specialists & Preventative services

To promote preventive services we provide education to the public through media. We also offer, at affordable price, special packages to our clients for health check-ups including:
